The directors of the Oscar-winning documentary Free Solo needed an elegant, visually stunning 3D solution to illustrate Alex Honnold’s legendary climbing route up Yosemite’s El Capitan. We helped identify the perfect technology and facilitated key business and technical collaborations to seamlessly integrate high-resolution Google Earth imagery into the film.

Acting as the critical link between creative vision and cutting-edge technology, we collaborated closely with the filmmakers to identify Google Earth as the ideal platform. After securing Google’s approval, we coordinated between the film team and Google’s engineering and product groups. The result was a groundbreaking use case of Google Earth that provided audiences with an immersive, vivid perspective on Honnold’s rope-free climb up one of the world’s most legendary rock faces.

The integration enriched the storytelling of the Oscar-winning documentary, enhancing viewers’ understanding of the physical and technical challenges of El Capitan. The collaboration not only elevated the film’s visual narrative but also showcased Google Earth’s powerful potential in cinematic storytelling, reaching audiences far beyond traditional tech users.
